"I have a fascination with the symbolism of Día de Muertos, which is based on a celebration of living life while honoring those who have passed away. I wanted to bring this concept into this painting by placing a beautiful woman in the foreground while mixing in symbols from the holiday such as flowers and skulls. Looking at this woman, you understand that she is trying to make peace with her own mortality.
This is the way: where we are going to meet death, life waits for us in the middle of our path."
